    Geopol W: Helping Indian foundries achieve high-integrity aluminium castings

    The 67th Indian Foundry Congress took place in New Delhi in January. The Indian foundry industry is the second largest producer of cast components in the world, producing around 10 million tons per year. John Winter are delighted to have been invited to deliver a technical session as this grand congress.

    Andrew Tagg, Technical Manger at John Winter presented the benefits of warm air cured binder process to delegates in the foundry community and casting manufacturing. Geopol W is the latest development in inorganic binders, specifically developed to be cured by warm air to help foundries achieve high-integrity aluminium casting with a greatly reduced impact on the environment.

    Geopol W has been developed with medium to high production in mind for productivity rates similar to that of cold box process, whilst improving on the casting’s surface integrity. This inorganic binder features a flowable sand mix with low addition levels and high binding strengths to achieve higher mould density and therefore a better surface finish.

    The Warm Air Cured Inorganic Binder Process is specifically designed to meet today’s requirement for the mass production of high integrity Aluminium castings. Typical parameters for optimal results sit at 150oC for both the core box and air temperature with core machine cycle times comparable to the Cold Box Process.
