Adam Bennett, sales director, discusses why John Winter has invested in both the foundry and dental industries…
Some of our customers don’t know this, but we’re not just a foundry or dental supplier – we’re both. We’re heavily involved in two completely different industries, setting us apart from other businesses our customers work with.
About 35 years ago, we looked to diversify our foundry supplies company, in order to safeguard and futureproof the business. We saw that the dental industry was booming and had some major players, so we looked to invest in it, which was a huge gamble for us.
It ended up being a really smart and positive decision. Our dental division is now around 30 per cent of our business and still growing.
We supply roughly 70 to 80 per cent of the 2,000 dental laboratories in the UK, so there is still scope for further expansion into this market.
We’re investing heavily in new technology, such as 3D scanners and printers, to give laboratories the ability to innovate, while saving on costs.
But, we’ve never lost sight of our core business. Our foundry side still continues to go from strength to strength and we’re now exporting to over 40 countries worldwide.
We’re developing our product range to provide our customers with materials tailored to their needs. And, as the industry seeks to become more sustainable, we’re continuing to manufacture innovative new products which are environmentally-aware and cost-effective.
We have a lot of exciting developments ahead. Watch this space!
